Grapplers take to the Mats

When watching the Arvada/Ralston Valley HS wrestling match this week, (Arvada 39, RV 36), I was taken back to when I was in high school, and remembering the amazing athleticism, determination and guts that those on the mat demonstrated. I remembered the amazing discipline and conditioning that the serious wrestlers possessed. This week's match was an exciting evening as the grapplers at the various weight levels went out to take on his opponent, mono-e-mono.

The fans were very supportive and the gym roared with fans cheering instructions, bleacher coaching, and support. Although the puny punks, with the toilet mouths, were a disappointment, as they made fun of the wrestlers, the fans etc...and when asked what sport they participated in, they just slurred some profanity my way and gave me dirty looks. I'd love to see some of these fans just try and go through the routines these athletes go through daily...even better, i 'd love to see them out on the mat with those with whom they trow criticism...can you say" Hickory nut cruncher" or how about a "peach basket" for all to see. No doubt a cross face is in order.
As the wrestlers continue to hone their skills, condition themselves and manage their nutrition, I wish the fine young athletes much success as they take to the mats this winter, and I hope they are able to apply the lessons of the sport to their lives to become fine young men and positive contributors to their communities.
There is a website (listed in this blog) that ranks the wrestlers throughout the season, so follow some of your favorites.
